Beatrice (Gonsalves) Mendes, 81, of New Bedford died April 3, 2005 at home after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Frank Mendes.
Born in Freetown, the daughter of the late Manuel and Margaret (Santos) Gonsalves, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was active in ONBOARD many years ago.
Survivors include six sons, Robert Mendes, and his wife Olga, Ronald Mendes, Dennis Mendes, Stephen Mendes and Ronald Mendes, Jr., all of New Bedford, and Frank Mendes, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; three daughters, Janice Mendes and Lynette Mendes, both of New Bedford, and Faith Williams and her husband Dennis, of Florida; two sisters, Mary Dias and Juvina Dias, both of New Bedford; 28 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a special grandchild, Denise Williams of New Bedford, who was like a daughter to her; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Eva Vasconcellos, Jennie Lopes, and Clara Andrade.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service in Calvary Pentecostal Church, Freetown, Thursday, April 7th at 11 AM.
Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Wednesday, April 6th from 6-9 PM.
Interment St. John's Cemetery.
