SPRINGFIELD – Marie W. (Desotell) Dion, 91, a longtime resident of the East Forest Park section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, June 20, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at the Heritage Woods Assisted Living Community in Agawam surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born in Springfield on January 21, 1924, a beloved daughter of the late Wilbur and Rose (Arnold) Desotell. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from Springfield Public Schools and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was last employed by the former US Envelope Company, which later became Westvaco, and previously worked at the former Springfield Armory. Most of all, Marie was a wonderful homemaker who loved her family and showered them with her care and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. During the summer months, Marie enjoyed her many trips to Hampton Beach with her family. She was a longtime communicant of the former Saint Joseph Church and currently a communicant of Saint Patrick Church, both in Springfield. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend of over 70 years, Norman J. Dion who was Called Home on January 19, 2015. She leaves her five loving children, Norman J. Dion and Barbara J. Sleeper and her husband, Lawrence, all of Feeding Hills, Donald A. Dion and his wife, Carolyn, of Ludlow, and Leonard P. Dion and his wife, Maria, and Linda M. Cote and her husband, Kenneth, all of Chicopee; her 11 cherished grandchildren, Michelle Day and her husband, Michael, Nicole Dugan and her husband, Edward, Nicholas Dion and his wife, Jessica, Matthew Dion and his wife, Cristen, Laurie Butt and her husband, Michael, Lynette Langone and her husband, Anthony, Lonny Sleeper and his wife, Pamela, Jontae Dion, Leo Dion, Jayk Dion and Laina Dion; her 18 cherished great-grandchildren, Ryan, Ashley and Courtney Day; Kiley and James Dugan; Madalyn and Ella Dion; Carmella Dion; Steven, Rachel, Samantha and Tyler Butt; Gianna, Elisa and Mia Langone; and Brittany, Caitlin and Alexandra Sleeper; her dear sister-in-law, June Dion of Florida; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Dion and Desotell families. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear sister, Gloria “Gogo” Allen; and her two dear brothers-in-law, Roger and Richard Dion. Her family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her funeral and burial on Friday, June 26, 2015 will be private for her family.
