Donald J Barboza Sr, age 86, passed away on June 11, 2015. Born in New Bedford, Donald was the son of
the late Joseph and Palmeda Barboza. He was the brother of Anne Houghton of New Bedford and
Anthony Barboza of Plymouth and brother of the late Joe Barboza. His work began as a Fish Lumper
prior to becoming the Business Agent and Financial Secretary of the New Bedford Fish Lumper’s Union
Local 1749 ILA, including the Chief Fish Weigher for the city of New Bedford. Donald was also
the President of the Southeastern Labor Port Council and President of the Santo Cristo Club.
Mr. Barboza was married for 60 years to Barbara M. Monteiro of Cape Cod. They lived in Lake Worth,
Florida for the past 20 years before returning to New Bedford. Mr. and Mrs. Barboza are parents to the
late Donna and David Barboza. Living children are Kenneth Wayne Barboza of Oklahoma, Kathleen
Howes, wife of Richard Howes II of Cape Cod and Donald Jr. of West Palm Beach Florida. Donald is also
survived by his grandson Richard Howes III of Cape Cod and great grandson Dylan Howes.
Donald will be remembered for the love for his family, his generosity to others through the years,
his love for animals, gardening, cooking, cruise vacations with his wife, his accomplishments for
the Fish Lumper’s Union and so much more. He will truly be missed.
Service will begin at 11:30am, Friday, June 26, 2015 at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., NB.
Service continues at St. Johns Cemetery on Allen Street.
