John J. Calnan, age 49, of Lynn, died suddenly at home June 17.
Born in Lynn, the son of Patrick B. Calnan and the late Kathleen M. (Mannion) Calnan, and the husband of Kerry E. (O’Brien) Calnan, with whom he shared 24 years of marriage. He was the son-in-law of Charles and Janice O’Brien of Lynn. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1984 and he attended the University of Lowell.
John was in the construction business for 30 years and was the owner of the Calnan Construction Company.
He was a communicate of St. Mary’s Church as well as a volunteer. Amongst his charitable endeavors he had done a lot of the construction upkeep of the church and other organizations. He loved his Irish heritage and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernian’s Division 10. He was an avid sports fan and was a star basketball player at Lynn English. He continued playing sports in many recreational leagues in Lynn. As his children got older, he enjoyed watching them play in many different sports. His children were the joy of his life.
Besides his father and wife he is survived by his four children, Patrick J., Shannon M., Rachel E and John “Jack” J. Calnan; his five sisters, Pauline A. Coulon and her husband Paul, Patricia E. O’Brien and her husband Rick, Priscilla B. Calnan, Maura B. DiBartoloemo and her husband Angelo, Catherine M. Polakiewicz and her husband James; his brother, Joseph V. Calnan and his wife Michelle, and the late Patrick J. Calnan. He also leaves brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Service information: Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Tuesday, June 23 from the NADWORNY Funeral Home, 798 Western Ave., Lynn at 9:30 a.m. Followed by his Mass of Christian burial in St. Mary’s Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn.
