LOWELL—Charles N. Murray, Sr., 81 years old, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died Sunday afternoon, March 27th, at the home of his son, in Pelham, NH. He was the husband of the late Althea M. (Taylor) Murray, who died in 1999.
He was born in Lowell, on May 15, 1923, a son of the late Normand Y. and Bertha M. (Roper) Murray. He was a graduate of the Lowell Public School System, and attended the former Lowell Technological Institute.
During World War II, Mr. Murray served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Daly. He was a member of the Tin Can Soldier Association. By trade, Mr. Murray was employed as a second Class engineer. He was employed by the former Boston and Maine Railroad, in North Billerica, Continental Can, in Haverhill, and the Polaroid Corporation, in Waltham.
Mr. Murray was a lifelong member of the Matthews Memorial Church, in East Chelmsford. He served on the Board of Trustees and was an usher at the church. Mr. Murray was Past President of the Town Travelers Square Dance Group and a member of the Masonic Temple, where he received his 50 year pin from the William North Lodge. He was also a member of DeMolay.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law: Charles N. and Deborah Murray, Jr., of Pelham, NH; and Bryan T. Murray, of Bradford; a daughter and son-in-law: Sandra and David Houde, of Hudson, NH; four grandchildren: Virginia A. Houde, of Hudson, NH; Elizabeth A. Murray, of Pelham, NH; Adam T. Murray, of Hawaii; and Jessica L. Murray, of North Carolina; a great grandson: Krystofer M. Houde, of Hudson, NH; a niece: Judith Mills, of Woburn and a nephew: Richard Chamberlain, of Lowell.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, March 31st, from 4 until 8 PM at the MATTHEWS MEMORIAL CHURCH, 128 Gorham Street, East Chelmsford. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 1st, at 10 AM at the Church. Burial in the Edson Cemetery, Lowell. Donations in his memory may be made to the VNA of Greater Lowell, P.O.
