John R. Kelley 92 of Salem, passed away, Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the Devereux House in Marblehead, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Jacqueline E. (Morency) Norton Kelley and was also the husband of the late Evelyn (O’Dowd) Kelley.
Born in Newport, Rhode Island and raised in Clinton, Maine, he was the son of the late John R. and Mary E. (Crowley) Kelley. Jack served with the Navy during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific and in the Mediterranean during the Korean Conflict. He returned to the Northshore and settled in Danvers while working for A.C. Lawrence Leathers of Peabody. He left the leather tanning industry to work as a letter carrier in Danvers for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1984. Jack moved to Salem shortly after his marriage to Jackie in 1983.
Jack enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, dancing and reading. He was a 20 year member of the Vittori Rocci Post 56 of Beverly and member of the AARP.
In addition to his wife Jackie, he is survived by a daughter, Sharon M. Keefe of Wilmington, a son, John R. Kelley and his wife Kathleen of Charlton, NY, three stepchildren, Dr. Pamela A. Norton and her husband Dr. Joseph Potz of Bluebell, PA, Nancy Norton of Largo, FL, Sandra J. Pezzulo and her husband Mark of Henneker, NH.
He also leaves, five grandchildren, Rachael, Erin, Samantha, Rebecca, and Adam, three great-grandchildren, Alison, Sam and Liam, three step-grandchildren, Anthony, Gianna, Amanda as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Ellen Beaudoin,
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11:45 A.M. to be followed by his funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 1:00 P.M. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be on Friday, June 19th from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Burial will be private.
