Therese M. Desjardins, 91, of Manville died Sunday June 14, 2015 at Home & Hospice Care of RI. She was the loving wife of the late Lucien J. Desjardins. They were married on April 12, 1947 and shared 52 years together until his passing in 2000.
Born in Woonsocket and raised in Blackstone she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Aurore (Caya) Morin. She was a resident of Manville for over 67 years.
Mrs. Desjardins was employed at Woonsocket Spinning Company for many years. Together with her late husband they founded Lou’s Café on Summer St. in Manville in 1954 and operated the business for over 30 years until their retirement.
Therese was a longtime communicant of St. James Parish. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards. Family was paramount in Therese’s life. She will be remembered a devoted wife and mother and cherished her role as memere to her grandchildren and their children.
Therese is survived by a daughter Maggie Rogers of Manville with whom she lived. She was the mother of the late Muriel Desjardins who passed away one day before her on Saturday June 13, 2015.
She was the sister of Armand and Cecile Morin and the late Edgar, Joseph, Emile and Leo Morin, Germaine Gravel and Sr. Aurore (Sr. Joanna) Morin, P.M. She is also survived by 6 granddaughters Kelly Rhodes, Cindy Bush, Erin Rogers, Chrissy and Sara Nadeau and Elizabeth Rowlands, 5 great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild on the way and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Her funeral will be Friday at 11:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon in St. James Church Division St. Manville. The Mass will be celebrated for the repose of the souls of Therese and her daughter Muriel. They will be laid to rest together in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Thursday from 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. James Parish, 33 Divison St. Manville, RI. 02838.
