Obituary

LUDLOW – Maureen P. (Doody) O’Donnell, 69, of Ludlow, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, June 13, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on February 2, 1946, a beloved daughter of the late Thomas J. and Helen M. (Sullivan) Doody. She was raised in West Springfield and graduated from West Springfield High School, where she excelled in school and was a proud majorette. She lived in West Springfield for many years before moving to Ludlow around 1980. She was employed as an office manager at the Davriel Jewelry Store in East Longmeadow and had previously worked for many years at the former Ludlow Savings Bank. For many years, Maureen and her husband, Jim, were the owners of the Marlow’s Package Store in Ludlow. Maureen was proud of her Irish heritage and, during her leisure time, she enjoyed dancing and Irish music. Most of all, she was a wonderful woman and proud grandmother who showered her family with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, James F. O’Donnell. They were married on October 11, 1969 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 45 years of happiness together. She also leaves her three loving children, Kimberly L. O’Donnell-Hardy and her husband, Dale Hardy, of Springfield, James F. O’Donnell, Jr. and his wife, Andrea, of Enfield, CT and Colleen M. O’Donnell of Ludlow; her seven cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Tyler O’Donnell-Hardy, Parker Hardy and Spencer Hardy, Shamus O’Donnell and Maeve O’Donnell, and Mackenzie O’Donnell and Liam O’Donnell; her three dear sisters, Cathy Martel and her husband, Edward, of North Carolina, Eileen Brumley and her husband, Carl, of Feeding Hills, and Betty Hanchet and her husband, James, of Easthampton; her dear brother, Thomas Doody and his wife, Ellen, of Westfield; her dear sister-in-law of the O’Donnell family, Jean-Marie Gurtsma of Oberlin, OH; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the O’Donnell and Doody families. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her dear brother-in-law of the O’Donnell family, Larry Gurtsma. Her family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will be private at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Susan G.
