Paul J. DeGirolamo, age 70, of Mansfield, MA and North Falmouth, MA passed away peacefully at his home, on Monday, June 15, 2015, after a six-month battle with cancer. Paul was born on October 20, 1944 in Attleboro, MA, the son of the late Peter and Mary (Narciso) DeGirolamo.
Paul was the beloved husband of Janet (Strople) DeGirolamo, his high school sweetheart, to whom he was wed for the past 50 years.
Paul was a life-long resident of Mansfield and a 1962 graduate of Mansfield High School. Upon his graduation from high school, Paul attended Mansfield Academy in Boston. Paul was a successful business owner for more than 50 years. This was a tribute not only to his talent with hair design, but also with connecting to people. He loved going to work every day and spending time with colleagues, clients, and friends.
Throughout his life, family was always the focal point, for which he cherished every moment. His favorite moments were times spent with family on Cape Cod, boating, skiing in Vermont, and meticulously caring for his yard (which was admired by many in town).
Paul was a man of many talents. He played drums in the Mansfield High School band, was an accomplished chef, and a talented painter. He was active in the Rotary Club of Mansfield and served as President for one year. He was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations between peoples of the world.
In addition to his beloved wife Janet, he is survived by his three sons and their wives; John and Christine DeGirolamo of Newington, CT, Thomas and Tara DeGirolamo of Mansfield, MA, and Mark and Tara DeGirolamo of Mansfield, MA. He was a devoted grandfather to his seven grandchildren; Jack, Sam, Morgan, Mark, Ryan, James, and Andrew. He was the brother of Peter DeGirolamo and his wife Susan of Mansfield, David DeGirolamo and his wife Nancy of Attleboro, and Roy DeGirolamo and his wife Cindy of Mansfield. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jacquelyn (Strople) Tauber and her husband Stuart of Plymouth, MA and Longboat Key, FL as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, June 20th at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St., Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 19th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sherman Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
