Ms. Betty Sarah Harden Jowers, 91, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Prospect Baptist Church, in Ben Hill County, with the Reverend Danny Gay officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 19, 2015, from 6 until 8, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Ms. Jowers was born October 13, 1923 to the late Seaborn Judge Tecumseh and Ola Esther “Essie” Lee Harden. She was the last surviving child of eight children born to Seaborn Harden and his two wives; Nancy Bowen Lewis Harden and Ola Esther “Essie” Lee. She had lived in the Ben Hill/Irwin County community her entire life. She loved her cats and her plants. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald, but her “heart” church was always Prospect Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, William Carl Jowers and his wife Myra; and her grandchildren and their spouses: Lars Michael Jowers (Alicia), Justin Leif Jowers (Michelle) and Sarah Ashley Jowers-Norton (Demico), all of Jacksonville, Florida; great grandchildren: Elijah Jordan Jowers, Preston David Jowers, Zoe Isabella Jowers, Lily Leonida Jowers and Sophia Rose Jowers; a special niece, Mary Frances Royal Cantrell of Fitzgerald, who protectively looked after her over the years; and a sister-in-law, Marguerite Willcox Harden of Valdosta. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son; John Harden Jowers, who lived only five days; her siblings; Annie Belle Harden Johnson, Mary Gladys Harden Stone, Louis Osborne Harden. John Henry Harden, William Harmon Harden, Seaborn James Tecumseh Harden and Dorothy Josephine Royal.
