JONES Sally, 86, formerly of Wellesley Hills and most recently of Needham, died June 6, 2015 with her family by her side. Her husband Proctor Jones preceded her in December 2010.
Born on August 28, 1928 in Savannah, Georgia, the daughter of Marion Patterson Browne of Savannah, Georgia and Allen “Brownie” Browne of Lewiston, Maine, Sally grew up her early years in Savannah and Lewiston in her teens, before attending Westbrook Junior College.
When the children were growing up Sally enjoyed bowling with close friends, card games, curling across the US and Canada, 9-hole golf, throwing dinner parties and even transcendental meditation in its early years. And, much to the dismay of her friends at North Hill she played a mean Bingo. Growing up she loved to dance to the big bands, learned piano as a young mother and in recent years spent Friday afternoons enjoying Boston Symphony Orchestra performances.
Sally was someone who enjoyed the simpler things in life – coffee and laughter with a girlfriend, finding the perfect birthday card, crossword puzzles with family, watching Jeopardy, soaking up the sun from Georgia to Maine to Cape Cod to California to Paris and Nice, and flowers of all kinds -- especially daisies. Above all she enjoyed simply hanging out with her children and grandchildren, visiting and telling stories together.
Sally is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Schweighofer-Jones of Los Gatos, CA and Mark Jones and his wife Bernadette of North Attleboro, MA. She is the proud grandmother of Dominique Sally Marie Schweighofer, Claire Yvan Proctor Schweighofer, Ian Jones and Lincoln Jones. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Clark Collins of New London, NH and aunt to Chuck Collins and Laurie Collins.
The funeral service will be held at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington Street, Wellesley Hills, Saturday, June 27 at 10am, followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetary, Wellesley and a reception at North Hill, 865 Central Avenue in Needham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington Street, Wellesley on Friday June 26, 4-7pm.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be directed to the American Cancer Society in the name of Sally Browne Jones.
