Obituary

Robert E. Auger, 99, of Clinton St., formerly of Mendon Rd., Woonsocket died Saturday at Woonsocket Health Center. He was the loving husband of Loretta (Barrie) Auger. They were married on September 2, 1940 and shared almost 75 years of happiness together.
Born and raised in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Samuel and Alphonsina (Levesque) Auger. He was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Auger was a professional truck driver and was employed by Laramee’s Transit for 30 years and then by B&W Transportation Company until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of Teamsters Local 251.
Robert was a member of the St. Joseph’s Senior Citizens group and participated in activities at Kennedy Manor and the Woonsocket Senior Center. He enjoyed traveling.
Music was an essential part of Robert’s life and he was gifted with a beautiful singing voice.
In addition to his wife of 74 years, he is survived by a son, Robert P. Auger and his wife, Martina, of Utah, two daughters Vivian Gentz and her husband, Doug, of Oklahoma, and Diane Demers and her husband, Harold of Greenville. He was the brother of Lorette Lemieux of Woonsocket and the late Wilfred and Normand Auger, Juliette Duguay, Germaine Ethier and Beatrice Dufresne. He is also survived by 4 grandsons, Paul and Marc Auger and Benjamin and Stephen Demers, 6 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews and their families.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:00 am in All Saints Church, Rathbun St., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30am prior to Mass, in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket.
