Thomas J. McGovern of Needham died on Wednesday March 23 at the Stanley R. Tippett House in Needham. He was 68 years old. Mr. McGovern was born in Newton and graduated from Waltham High School Class of 1955. He went on to graduate from Bowdoin College Class of 1959. Tom was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He received in Master in Education from Boston State College in 1967. Mr. McGovern taught History and Social Studies at Watertown High School for over 40 years. He also coached basketball, track, and golf at Watertown and Brookline High Schools. Mr. McGovern was a member of Saint Joseph Parish and taught in the CCD program for many years. In his spare time, Tom was an avid golfer. Beloved husband of Elaine M. (Sheehan). Devoted father of Michael T and his wife Laura of Medfield, Maj Daniel P, U.S.M.C. and his wife Pam of Jacksonville N.C., Edward J and his fiancé Keri A Hall of Washington D.C., Robert F of Annapolis MD, James M and his wife Stacey of Holliston and William A McGovern of Washington DC. Cherished Grandfather of 7. Brother of Sheila Neilson and Eleanor Cochrane both of Waltham and Barbara Childers of Truro. Loving Uncle of Elaine, Karen, Janet, Cheryl and the late Alison of the DesRoches family. Also survived by many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Avenue Needham (Exit 19B off Rte 128) on Tuesday March 29 at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Joseph Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours on Monday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM. Interment in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.
