Obituary

New Bedford – Manuel Sylvia, 88, of New Bedford died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at home with his family by his side, after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Helen L. (Howland) Sylvia.

He was born and raised in South Dartmouth, son of the late Manuel and Rose (Sousa) Sylvia, later moving to New Bedford when he married. Prior to retirement in 1994 he was a truck driver for various trucking companies in the area. He was a Communicant of St. Mary’s Church, South Dartmouth and a member of the Paskamansket Beagle Club. Mr. Sylvia most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs.

He is survived by 2 daughters: Barbara A. Silvia of New Bedford and Patricia Sylvia Linhares of South Dartmouth; a sister: Anna Fawcett of South Dartmouth; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was father of the late Robert Sylvia and brother of the late Mary Perry, Julia Machado, Rose Medeiros, Louisa Rodriques, Tom Sylvia, Frank Sylvia and George Sylvia.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, March 29, 2005 from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport at 8:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, South Dartmouth at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours Monday 6 – 8 P.M.

Interment will be private.
