Bridgewater - James R. Tibbetts, 60, of Bridgewater, formerly of Wareham and Holbrook, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at the V.A Hospital in West Roxbury after a brief illness. He was the husband of Nancy M. (Higgins) Tibbetts.
Born Sept. 26, 1944, in Weymouth, he was the son of the late Lloyd D. Sr. and Ernestine P. (Waite) Tibbetts.
Raised in Holbrook, Mr. Tibbetts was a graduate of Holbrook High School, Class of 1962.
He was director of maintenance for three years at Sachem Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and previously worked for other nursing facilities.
Mr. Tibbetts was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War, and then spent 33 years in the National Guard.
He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon and many more.
Mr. Tibbetts had been a resident of Bridgewater for the past 25 years, coming from Wareham, where he lived for seven years.
He enjoyed golf, fishing, traveling to Hawaii and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his three children, Richard A. Tibbetts of Randolph, Dawn M. Bourget and her husband John J. of Middleboro and James R. Tibbetts and his wife Patricia of Middleboro; two brothers, Paul and Peter Tibbetts, both of Hyannis; five grandchildren, Katrina R. and Ashley R. Tibbetts and Christopher M., Zachary J. and Sarah E. Bourget; a sister-in-law, Carol Colburn of Florida and several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. He was also the brother of the late Lloyd D. Tibbetts Jr.
His funeral service will be held in Central Square Congregational Church, Central Square, Bridgewater, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
