WORCESTER-William J. McGuiness, 86, of 36 Delawanda Drive, died Wednesday, March 23rd at home after a long illness. He leaves his wife of 27 years, Carol A. (Howard) McGuiness, 3 sons, James McGuiness and William McGuiness, Jr. both of Worcester and David Londergan of N. Oxford, 6 daughters, Judith Dacey, Laurie Morrison and Suzanne Longone all of Worcester and Cheryl Barber of Charlton, Patricia Goodell of Oxford and Cathleen Sullivan of Oxford, a brother, Charles McGuiness of Spencer, a sister, Florence Carlson of Worcester, 12 grandchildren, Moira and Sean Dacey, James and Lisa McGuiness, Noah and Adam Sullivan, Benjamin, Aaron and Abigail Goodell, Collin and Emilie McGuiness and Nicole Londergan, many nephews and nieces. His former wife, Rita (Farrell) McGuiness died in 1974 and 3 brothers, Robert, Howard and Richard McGuiness and a sister, Doris McGuiness predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester the son of William A. and Florence (Lane) McGuiness, graduated from South High School and obtained an associate degree from Worcester Junior College. Mr. McGuiness owned and operated B & R Security Service for 19 years, until retiring in 1989. Previously, he worked as an engineer at Crompton Knowles for 28 years. He was a long time member and servant of Charlton Baptist Church. He served as the Chief Ranger for the Independent Order of Foresters and was a member of the Southern Massachusetts Police Association for many years.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 28th in Charlton Baptist Church, 50 Hammond Hill Road, Charlton. A farewell message from Bill: “Send me no flowers. I can not smell them. Cry me no tears. You will only wet your face and ruin your mascara.” In lieu of flowers he has requested, memorial contributions be made to Charlton Baptist Church, Building Fund, 50 Hammond Hill Road, Charlton, MA, 01507.
