Obituary

Frederick A. Merrill, Jr., formerly of Manchester and Seabrook, NH, and most recently a resident at Mystic Manor, Mystic, CT, died Monday, March 21, 2005 at the age of 89. He died of complications from Alzheimer's disease.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Madeline Merrill, his two daughters and sons-in-law Donna and David Damon of Mystic, CT, and Brenda and Donald Caldwell of Fitchburg, MA, his four grandchildren Stephen and Hannah Damon, and Katie and Rebecca Caldwell, a brother Gordon Merrill of Goffstown, NH, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Merrill was born in Arlington, MA, grew up in Goffstown, NH, and lived in Manchester, NH, most of his life. Mr. Merrill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Coast Guard sonarman on the U.S.S. Carson City.

He owned and operated Merrill's Tire and Battery in Manchester for many years before retiring in 1984. In his Navy 50th anniversary book, he noted that he and Madeline spent their retirement years rotating between Seabrook, NH, Haines City, FL, and Great Bay, NH. Mr. Merrill was an avid outdoor sportsman finding a sport for every season, and especially loved the ocean where in his retirement he was a commercial lobsterman supplying local markets.

A Memorial Service will be held at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic, on Saturday, April 2nd at 11:00am. There are no visiting hours. Private burial will be held at the family's convenience.
