Worcester: Leonora (Sklut) Thomas, 95, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015 in Beaumont Nursing Home. She leaves 3 nieces- Virginia Baker of N. Grafton, Donna Gendron of Shrewsbury, Elizabeth Conner of Gainsville, Fl, a nephew Glenn Sklut of Shrewsbury and several Gt. nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Stephen P. Thomas in 2010.
Leonora was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Joseph and Agatha (Didick) Sklut. She graduated from North High School and the Worcester Art Museum School. She worked in advertising at many Department stores in Worcester then became the Advertising Manager at Grover Cronin in Waltham. Leonora went on to get her Masters Degree in Education from Goddard College and worked as an Art teacher in the Auburn school system for the remainder of her career. "Auntie Mame" as she was affectionately called, enjoyed classical music, traveling with her husband, fashion, dance, jewelry (pearls being her favorite) and her furry friends "Tootsie" and "Queenie".
A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 10:00 am. in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St. Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. There are no calling hours. Nordgren Memorial Chapel is directing arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Leonora's memory may be made to the Worcester County Food Bank, 474 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury 01545 or the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester 01606.
