Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Eleanor B. (Forent) Goodreau, 87, of the Indian Orchard section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Friday, June 12, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in St. Albans, Vermont on February 24, 1928, a beloved daughter of the late Louis J. and Sarah (Nolan) Forent. At a young age, her parents moved to Amherst and later to Springfield where she graduated from the former Chestnut High School. She was employed for many years as a cook for the Springfield Public Schools and worked at the New North Community School and the Dorman Elementary School. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a longtime communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield where she was a longtime volunteer for the Annual Catholic Stewardship Appeal for the Diocese of Springfield. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Gerald Goodreau who was Called Home on February 10, 1997. They were married on July 19, 1947 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with nearly 50 years of happiness together. She was also predeceased by her loving daughter-in-law, Diane M. Goodreau who was Called Home on December 6, 2014; and her loving brother, Howard R. Forent who was Called Home on October 5, 1986. She leaves her five loving children, Gerald J. Goodreau of Feeding Hills, Richard J. Goodreau and his wife, Kathleen, of Chicopee, Annmarie T. Ward and her husband, Leroy Ward, Jr., of Springfield, Allen F. Goodreau and his wife, Christine, of East Longmeadow and Gloria J. Lombardi and her husband, Robert, of Springfield; her seven cherished grandchildren, Leeann and Gerald, Jr., Tracy and Scott, Michelle and Leroy, III and Katryna; her fourteen cherished great grandchildren; and her many dear nephews, nieces and extended members of the Goodreau and Forent families. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, June 17, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Baystate Visiting Nurse and Hospice, 280 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199.
