Mary Joanne Rogers was born June 21, 1956 to the late Bernetha Gibson Rogers and Charlie Rogers of Tunica, Mississippi. She was the youngest of 12 children. She departed this world on Tuesday, June 9th 2015 at home surrounded by her family. Mary attended Rosa Fort High School in Tunica Mississippi where she won the spelling bee and was double promoted in her junior year. She then moved to Boston Massachusetts at the age of 18 to continue her education and search for new opportunites. Upon her arrival she met her companion Charles Everett. Together they had one child, LaNiece Rogers, 39 of Boston Ma. Mary was a proud employee of Maximus Inc for the last 8 years as a Reconciliation Specialist. Her previous employer was General Electric HealthCare as an Accounts Receivable Coordinator for 22 years. Mary looked forward to retiring and spending her days doing some online shopping, and watching some of her favorite shows like Judge Judy, Maury, and Family Feud. Mary enjoyed being a grand mother, cooking and hosting events at her home with her family and friends. She was often the life of the party. When diagnosed with Lung Cancer in July 2013, she remained determined and faithful in her fight to beat her illness. Even after losing her eyesight due to Radiation treatments, her faith never waivered. She remained strong and brave throughout her final moments. Mary is survived by her daughter, LaNiece Rogers and Grand Daughter Brittany Rogers both of Boston Ma. Her sisters Dorothy, Mamie, Bernetha, and her two brothers Earl and Willie Rogers. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and close friends whom she held near to her heart. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Monday June 15 at the St. John Missionary Baptist Church 230 Warren St. Roxbury. Visiting with her family will be held at the church from 10 am until 11 am. The funeral service will commence at 11 am. and conclude at approximately at 12 noon. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Roslindale.
