Obituary

Gloria (Battistini) Riley of Mystic died Sunday morning, June 7, 2015, at her home. She was 92.

The second of three children, she was born on February 23, 1923 in Mystic, the daughter of the late Frank A. and Armandina (Simonelli) Battistini. She attended local schools and graduated from Stonington High School in 1940. She was married to James P. Riley who predeceased her.

During World War II, Gloria worked for the Coast Guard at Avery Point in Groton, CT. She later worked as an executive secretary for Sunoco Products plant in Mystic for many years. She was an active member of St. Patrick's Church, volunteering many hours in the rectory, as well as singing in the choir. She was an avid reader and loved the challenge of a tough crossword puzzle. The true lights of her life were her nieces and nephews, and their children.

She is survived by her sister, Virginia B. Haines of Mystic; her nephew Philip Haines and his wife Clelia-Cornelia O'Malley of De Pere, WI; three nieces Stacy Haines of Mystic, Allison Haines and her husband Jeff Sorenson of Pawcatuck, Patricia Molina and her husband Edwin Molina of Redondo Beach CA, and her niece in-law Stacy B. Haines-Mayne and her husband Bob Mayne of North Stonington; and her many grand nieces and grand nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Frank Battistini of Stonington and a nephew, Steven Haines, of North Stonington.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, June 13, at 10:00am at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery. There are no visiting hours. Donations in her memory may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 228 Dunham Street, Norwich CT 06360.
