Obituary

DUDLEY – Joseph G. Grosse, 90, died Thursday, June 4, 2015 with his grandsons at his side in Cape Heritage, Sandwich, after a period of declining health. His beloved wife of 64 years, Mildred M. (Mancini) Grosse, died in 2010. His precious daughter, Barbara M. Sampson, died on April 4.
He leaves 2 grandsons, David J. Sampson and his wife Penny of Sandwich and Steven P. Sampson and his partner Trinity Broderick of Plymouth; a great-grandson, Broderick Sampson; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother, Vincent Grosse.
He was born and raised in Boston, the son of Peter and Estelle (Pizzarella) Grosse. He lived on Long Island before moving to Dudley in 1960.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Grosse first owned and operated Dudley Florist and Nursery. He then converted the nursery to Schofield Avenue Package Store which he operated for many years. He retired in 1984.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Webster. He was a life member of the Auburn Webster Lodge of Elks #2118. He enjoyed animals and was particularly fond of cats. His quick wit and jokes will be missed by all who knew him.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, June 9, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main St., Webster. Burial will be in Saint Anthony’s Cemetery, Webster. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors at the cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 PM Monday, June 8, in the funeral home. Donations in his name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
