Dorothy A. (Varney) Peters “Dot” of Yarmouthport and formerly of Natick passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich. She was seventy-nine years old.
Born in Auburn, Massachusetts on February 25, 1936, she was the loving daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Hamilton) Varney.
She was raised mostly in Natick and worked her way up to bank manager through her thirty-two year career with the Guarantee 1st Trust Bank of Natick and later Natick Federal Bank.
Dot was a great wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend. She enjoyed being a homebody, going out to dinner, visiting friends, shopping, laughing, the beach, reading, Christmas, was always upbeat, funny and could tell a good joke. She loved going to Newport, Rhode Island and Cape Cod; where she lived for the last nine years and having wine therapy with her sister-bister club.
Dorothy decided to change locations when she worked at the bank in Sherwood Plaza in Natick to the Natick Shopping Center Branch and every employee from Sherwood Plaza demanded to move with her. She loved her job and all her customers.
She was the devoted wife of James R. Peters of Yarmouthport and together they shared forty-two years of marriage. Dorothy was the loving mother of Bonnie Bradford of Yarmouthport and Pam Leitao and her husband Carl of N. Attleboro.
Cherished grandmother of William Bradford, Jr. of Yarmouthport, Andrea Capistran and her partner Daniel Fischer of New York City, Charles Leitao and his wife Meghan of Roslindale and Ann Marie Leitao of Quincy.
Caring sister of Barbara Coville and her husband John of Marshfield, Richard Varney and his wife Helen of Southborough, Nancy Dunham and the late Richard of Sudbury, Robert Varney and his wife Karen of Upton, Janet Nix of Plymouth and the late June Place and Albert Varney.
Sister-in-law of Paul Peters and his wife Nancy of Natick and Nancy Van Tassel and her husband Gordon, also of Natick. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Service will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., at Natick Common on Thursday, June 11th at 10:00AM. Burial in Dell Park Cemetery, Natick will follow.
Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, June 10th from 5:00-8:00PM.
