Charles “Walter” Harvey, 82, of Tifton passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mr. Harvey will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 6, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church.
Mr. Harvey’s grandsons, Chance Benson, Briggs Benson, Tanner Johnson, Landon Johnson, as well as his nephews, Ricky Collins and Tommy Collins will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Harvey was born on June 21, 1932 in Wilcox County, the son of G. T. Harvey and Abbie Owens Harvey White, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen “Luneal” Poole Harvey; and one brother, Alvin Harvey. He was retired from the Coastal Plains Experiment Station and a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. He graduated from ABAC and the University of Georgia and followed University of Georgia football his entire life. He loved all Tift County and ABAC sporting events and was an avid golfer.
Mr. Harvey is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Lynn Harvey of Richmond, Virginia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Herby Benson and April and Mel Johnson, all of Tifton; two sisters, Wilma Dubose and Jeannette Collins, both of Albany; a sister-in-law, Kate Harvey of Albany; and five grandsons, Chance Benson, Briggs Benson, Tanner Johnson, Landon Johnson and Reese Johnson.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church of Tifton Memorial Chapel Fund, 404 Love Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794; or the Tiftarea YMCA, 1657 Carpenter Road, Tifton, GA 31793.
