Marietta “Marie” (Matrundola) Guarino passed away at home in the company of her loving family at the age of 91. Born and raised in Cervaro Italy in the province of Fisinone, she was the daughter of the late Andrea and Angelina (Tortolano) Matrundola. At the age of 14 she came to the United States with her family aboard the passenger ship, Conte DiSavoia. They settled in Medford, where Marie lived for the rest of her life. Married in 1944 she and her late husband Michael raised 10 children. Together they operated Marie’s Dry Cleaners in Teele Sq., Somerville and Medford. Sunday family dinners in her house were always bustling. Between her own children, their spouses or dates, and friends, you never knew how many people might be at the table. Marie worked throughout her life, either with her husband or as a seamstress. She was at her happiest when cooking spaghetti and meatballs while singing Italian ballads a Capella.
The beloved wife of the late Michael F. Guarino, she was a devoted mother to Freddie Guarino of Port St. Lucie, FL and his late wife Patty, Linda Pond of Londonderry, NH, and her late husband Teddy, Anthony and Michael Guarino, both of Medford, Michelle Robinson and her husband Warren of Littleton, CO, Richard Guarino and his wife Jean of Wakefield, Paul Guarino and his husband Richard Dunn of Chelmsford, the late Patricia Sullivan and her surviving husband John and the late Jeanie Guarino. She is lovingly survived by 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. The dear sister of Lucy Fionda and the late Carmella Castricini, Antonietta Pacitto and Marino Matrundola, she leaves many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday June 3rd from 4 through 8 PM and again on Thursday, June 4th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
