Obituary

Herbert A. Dalton, 88, of Ledyard passed away at the Groton Regency on Monday, May 25, 2015 with his wife by his side. Herbert was born in Brookhaven, New York on May 20, 1927.

Herb had many hobbies including; woodworking, cooking, bread making, and gardening. He loved to share his vegetables with others. He enjoyed golf, duck pin bowling and always found time to take part in all his sons' sporting activities.

Herb served in the Navy and Army during WWII and Korea, respectively. He worked at Electric Boat as a carpenter. He also worked for the Town of Ledyard as a Zoning Official and Registered Sanitarian. In 1971 Herb was hired as the Registered Sanitarian for the Town of Groton and retired in 1992.

He was a member of Grace Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in North Stonington.

Herb is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Arlene Shafer Dalton and their sons, Gary and his wife Susan of Hanford, California, Randy and his wife Patricia of Ledyard, and Wayne and his wife Birgit of Ledyard. His nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren were his greatest joys.

Herb is preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Dalton.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Herbert's life will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 6:00pm at the Grace Fellowship Evangelical Free Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Herbert's memory may be made to the Grace Fellowship Evangelical Free Church, 102 Providence-New London Turnpike, North Stonington CT 06359.
