Obituary


Mary Jane (Gilmore) Waddell passed away May 18, 2015 at Masonic Homes of Kentucky. Mary Jane was born May 16, 1923 in Louisville, KY., daughter of Mattie and Franklin Lee Gilmore, and was preceded in death by husband James A. Waddell, Sr.,brothers James F. and William T> Gilmore and sister Martha Gilmore Panek. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, James A. "Rusty" (Linda), Wayne (Marguerite) and Daniel (Rodman) Waddell, Grandchildren Kelley Ledford (Chris), Blair (Erin), Alan (Sara), Bronwen and Kinsey Waddell, and three great-grandchildren, Lucie and Lilly Ledford and Knox Waddell. She was a member of Jeffersontown Christian Church for more than 50 years and also belonged to the Phi Beta Psi philanthropic sorority. In her youth, Mary Jane was an accomplished fast-pitch softball player and her Kentucky Dairy Maids team competed in the ASA National Championships in 1939-40. Later, she was an avid golfer and and a long-time member of the Women's Falls Cities Golf Association, as well as Seneca and Shawnee Ladies Golf Associations. Besides her family, she leaves many life-long friends as well as latter day ones who meant very much to her, especially Weezie and Eddie Nalley. Cremation was chosen. A Memorial Service will be held Monday June 1, 2015 at 4p.m. at the Jeffersontown Christian Church 10631 Taylorsville Rd Louisville, KY 40299. It was her wish that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Jeffersontown Christian Church, Masonic Homes of Kentucky or Habitat for Humanity. The family wishes to thank Masonic care and the staff of the Pillars Assisted Living facility at the Masonic Homes of Kentucky for the care and attention that they gave Mary Jane over the years.
