Obituary


HOLLIS/OLD ORCHARD BEACH- James R. Ferguson, “Scotty”, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, most recently of 12 Usher Mill Road, Hollis, Maine, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2015, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine. He was born February 6, 1922 in County Clare, Ireland. He grew up in the lowlands of Scotland and traveled to Chicago at the age of 16 to live with his mother. He graduated from high school and at the beginning of WWII, he entered Radio School on Gallup’s Island in Boston Harbor. He served in the US Merchant Marines as a Lieutenant and Radio Operator. During the second World War his ship was sunk during the invasion of Normandy. He was a member of the US Merchant Marine Veterans World War II. He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Dorothy Ann Farrington . He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Ferguson Walker, her partner Dennis Walker of Hollis Maine and a son, Scott David Ferguson and spouse, Dona Lee Pratt Ferguson of Cataula Georgia as well as several cousins in Scotland. Scotty worked at JJ Nissen’s Bakery in Portland for 25 years. He enjoyed his retirement fully, traveling several times to Europe. He enjoyed several cruises as well as winters on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Per Scotty’s wishes there will be no services. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery North Windham, Maine.
