Sylvia Crum Evans, 81, of Tifton passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton's First Baptist Church. Dr. Wayne Roe will be officiating and a eulogy will be given by Dr. William Paul “Buddy” Crum Jr., her brother. Mrs. Evans will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 26, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Jack Lee, Joshua Godwin, Adam Simmons, Paul Crum, Wildes Crum, Philip Barnes, Hal Barnes and David Stewart will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Frank Raley Sunday school class of Tifton’s First Baptist Church and the Camellia Garden Club.
Mrs. Evans was born July 23, 1933 in Tifton, the daughter of William Paul Crum, Sr. and Flora Hollingsworth Crum, both deceased. She was a retired teacher and taught in Ty Ty and Tifton; a social worker with DFACS; and part owner of Evans Plant Company. She graduated from Tifton High School in 1950 and Wesleyan College in 1954 with a degree in Psychology. She was a member of the Camellia Garden Club for 52 years, and the Tifton Woman’s Club. She has been a member of the Frank Raley Sunday School class since it originated. She enjoyed reading, decorating, and appreciated beautiful gardens, homes, and pretty things.
Mrs. Evans is survived by her husband of 61 years, James Evans of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Chip Lee of Tifton and Beth and Randy Godwin of Lenox; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Buddy Crum, and wife, Dr. Mary Crum of Cumming; one sister and brother-in-law, Ann Crum Barnes and husband, Hal Barnes of Sandy Springs; and three grandchildren, Jack Lee, Hannah Lee, and Joshua Godwin. She was also guardian of her cousin, Kay Hollingsworth of Tifton.
