Donnie Fowler, age 86, a longtime resident of Chicopee, passed away peacefully at home on Monday May 18, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was beloved by his two daughters, Christine Morace, of Crown Point, Indiana and Ann Fowler-Cruz, of Sandy Hook, Connecticut. He also leaves behind his son-in law, Charles Morace, and his two adoring grandchildren Charles Christopher Morace and Jessica Cruz. He was married to Ruth Fowler for forty-eight years until her death in 2001. He is also predeceased by his son, Mark S. Fowler. Donnie was a military hero. He enlisted at the age of 17 and had a 35 year career in the Air Force. He rose through the ranks achieving the highest non-commissioned officer status. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars; received the Bronze Star Medal for heroic service in a combat zone; and he proudly served as an aid to General Curtis Lemay at the general's request. During his career, he was stationed throughout the United States and in Puerto Rico. Donnie also worked for the Department of Defense after his retirement from the Air Force. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing trips with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family. Funeral services will be held at the Massachusetts State Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam on Friday May 22nd at 11am.
