Raymond Edwin Naber, 97, formerly of Franklin, Mass, died May 21 in Fairfax County Hospital, Fairfax, Virginia. He was the husband of the late Angela P. (Hajduk) Naber of 61 years until her death in 2009.
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, December 25, 1917, the son of the late John and Mary (Siuda) Naberezny, Mr. Naber was raised in Lawrence and had lived in in Franklin from 1953 until moving to Centreville, Virginia in 2011.
Mr. Naber was a graduate of Lawrence High School in 1936 and attended Lowell Institute. After serving in the Army, he attended the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and graduated in 1950, with a Bachelor’s degree in Science.
In 1953, he bought and owned Puritan Drugs, Inc. in Franklin. He operated the company for 30 years until his retirement.
Raymond had conducted a fund drive and operated the blood program for the American Red Cross, in Franklin, for several years. He was a former member of the APHA, and the Massachusetts State Association. He was a member of the
Franklin VFW, AARP and was an honorary member of the Franklin Knights of Columbus.
Mr.Naber served in the Army during World War II. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served for 43 months with the 7th Station Hospital, mostly in the United Kingdom, North Africa and Italy. He received 2 battle stars.
Raymond enjoyed following the stock market, going to the beach, reading and having barbeques in the backyard.
He is survived by his loving children, Nancy Plonowski and her husband Paul of Hanover, Marian Thomas of Wilmington, Delaware and Mark Naber and his wife Susan of Centreville, Virginia.
He was the devoted grandfather of John, Suzanne, Elizabeth, Michael, Catherine, Ann, Daniel, Joseph, Stephen, Mary, and Emma, great-grandfather of
Isabella, Thomas, Adam, Elias and Sophie.
He is also survived by his brother Daniel Naber of San Diego, California.
He was the brother of the late Adam Naberezny and Helen Ross and father- in- law of the late Daniel Thomas.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, May 28 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin, at 9:15 followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary‘s Church at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lawrence.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.
