WORCESTER-A. Claire (Haynes) McEvoy, 86, of 10 Hemlock Street died Thursday, March 10th in Knollwood Nursing Center after a short illness. Her husband, Eugene F. McEvoy died in 1964. She leaves 2 daughters, Joan M., wife of the late Carl M. Scano of Worcester and Kathleen A., wife of Edmund B. King of Boylston, 2 grandchildren, Daniel J. and Johanna M. King both of Boylston, many nephews and nieces. 2 brothers, Francis and Paul Haynes and a sister, Elizabeth Harvey predeceased her.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Timothy and Anna C. (Leonard) Haynes and graduated from Commerce High School in 1936. Mrs. McEvoy worked for many years for the City of Worcester, Department of Public Works, until retirement. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church and a former member of the Providence Guild at St. Vincent Hospital. She enjoyed traveling and traveled often on bus trips with the Milford Travel Group and was an avid reader.
The funeral is Saturday, March 12th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 12 Noon in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 AM the day of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, Rear 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA, 01606.
