Susan (Schwartz) Ouimet, 57, of Westport died peacefully on Thursday March 10, 2005 at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was the wife of the late Kevin Charles Ouimet, who passed away November 17, 2004; they had been happily married for thirty-four years.
Born in Acushnet, the daughter of Henry Schwartz of New Bedford and the late Edna (Kidd) Schwartz, she lived in New Bedford before moving to Westport 32 years ago.
She was an active parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church.
Susan was formerly employed by Verizon in the construction and engineering departments until her retirement.
Susan was a co-founder and active member of O.C.E.A.N. (Ovarian Cancer Education and Awareness Network) at Massachusetts General Hospital. She loved gardening, boating, and going to the beach. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
Survivors include her father and his wife Helen of New Bedford; a son, Michael Kevin Ouimet of Westport; a daughter, Karen Suzanne Ouimet of Westport; a sister, Jayne Nightingale of Riverside, Rhode Island; her special cousin, Jo-Ann Rose Rezendes of Fairhaven; and a godchild, Elizabeth Thompson of Walden, New York.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday March 14, 2005 at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church, 945 Main Road, Westport at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Sunday March 13, 2005 from 3-7 PM. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
