Obituary

OXFORD – Madelyn J. (DeBarge) Melander, 88 of 19 Harwood Street, died Wednesday, March 9, in the Hospice at Coes Pond, Worcester. Her husband of 62 years, Edward N. Melander, died in 2003.

She leaves a son, Lawrence J. and his wife Susan S. Melander of Littleton; a daughter, Constance J. and her husband Dennis Tavares of Kingston; and 2 grandchildren, Kristen Edma of Arlington, VA, and Christopher Tavares of Braintree.

She was born in Lowell, the daughter of William and Mabel (Douglas) DeBarge, and graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester.

Mrs. Melander was a secretary at Oxford High School for 19 years before retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Worcester County, the Massachusetts, and the National Educational Secretaries Association. She was a member of the First Congregational Church.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to Oxford High School Scholarship Fund, c/o Ernest Boss, Principal, 495 Main Street, Oxford, MA 01540.
