Obituary

CHICOPEE – Lorraine I. (Fontaine) Kusnierz, 94, a longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. She passed into Eternal Life at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, Massachusetts surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 21, 1921, a beloved daughter of the late Francis and Lena R. (Theriault) Fontaine. She was raised in Chicopee and lived in the city for many years. In 2012, Lorraine moved to Groton, Massachusetts to live with her loving daughters and son-in-law, Janice, Kathy and Bob and their family. She was employed for many years in the Advertising Department for the former Food Mart Corporation. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville where she served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the church choir. During her leisure time, Lorraine enjoyed working around her home and cultivating her beautiful garden. She was an avid walker and was always ready for a good game of cards. Most of all, she was a wonderful mother and “little mémère” and “super mémère” who showered her family with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her two dear brothers, Alfred and Roland Fontaine; her loving son, Chicopee Deputy Fire Chief Dennis H. Kusnierz who was Called Home on April 11, 2000; and her loving husband and best friend, Theodore J. Kusnierz who was Called Home on November 29, 1965. They were married on November 5, 1942 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville and were blessed with 23 years of happiness together. She leaves her three devoted daughters, Kathleen L. LaCasse and her husband, Robert, of Groton, JoAnne Kusnierz of Chicopee and Janice Kusnierz of Groton; her loving daughter-in-law, Constance T. Kusnierz of Belchertown; her six cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Steven and Jennifer, Mark and Becky, Kimberly, Michelle and Ben, Jamie and Kevin and Sarah and Paul; her 15 cherished great-grandchildren whom she adored; her dear brother, George Fontaine and his wife, Noella, of Chicopee; her dear sister, Constance Lively of Port Saint Lucie, FL; her dear sister-in-law, Yvette Fontaine; her dear cousin and “adopted sister” who she grew up with, Barbara Benson of Port Charlotte, FL; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Kusnierz and Fontaine families. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. before the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
