Irma A. Welch

TEWKSBURY: Irma Ann (Salvi) Welch, age 86, a resident of Tewksbury for 48 years, passed away at home, with her family by her side, on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was the beloved wife of Joseph A. Welch, who passed away on September 12, 2007.
Born in Somerville on May 8, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Guido Salvi and the late Giovanna (Guarnieri) Salvi.
Irma was raised in Somerville, attended Somerville schools and graduated from Somerville High School in 1947.
In 1967, she and her late husband moved to Tewksbury, where they raised their three sons.
Irma was a communicant of St. William’s Parish and was a former member of the Ladies Sodality.
Prior to her retirement in 2000, she worked for 20 years as a Librarian for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell Campus.
Irma will lovingly be remembered for her devotion to her late husband, three sons, two grandchildren, and family.
She is survived by her three sons, Michael J. Welch and his wife Judith (Hoffman) of Natick, John R. Welch of Tewksbury and Joseph P. Welch of Westford; two grandsons, Derek A. and Andrew M. Welch of Natick; one sister, Irene Jones and her husband William of Saugus; one brother, G. Robert Salvi of Tewksbury; also many nieces and nephews.
Irma was the sister of the late Angelina Santoro and the late Paul Salvi.

Calling hours are Friday, May 22, from 4-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Her funeral will be held Saturday, May 23, at 12 Noon from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
