Obituary

Ernest L. Daly, 93 of Salem, passed away peacefully, Tuesday at the Kaplan family Hospice House in Danvers with his daughter by his side. He was the devoted husband of Rose M. (Ansaloni) Daly with he shared 68 years of marriage and who died on May 4th of this year.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Ernest and Emilia (Ouellette) Daly. A veteran of World War II, Ernie served with the Army in the Medical Detachment for the 121st Infantry in Normandy, Hurtgen Forest and the Rhineland, service for which he received 4 bronze stars with First Oak Leaf Cluster. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem and married Rose, the love of his life. For much of his career, Ernie worked for several dry cleaning businesses including, Perkins & Essex in Salem, Gold’s of Beverly Farms and Supreme in Hamilton.

Over the years, Ernie and his wife were active in many organizations. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Fr. Druillette Assembly of Lynn, 3rd Degree member of the K of C. Thomas E. Powers Council of Danvers, a life member of VFW Post 2359 of Danvers, International Order of Alhambra, Lugo Caravan 113. the Dante Alighieri Society of Boston, as well as an instructor for Boy Scout Troop 58 of Danvers, A past President of the Richelieu Club of Salem, in February of 2010, Ernie was awarded the Legion of Honor by the French Consul General Christophe Guilhou at a ceremony in Cambridge for meritorious service in defending France and Europe.

He is survived by his daughter, Jean L. Rockett of Salem, a brother J. Roger Daly of Townsend, two grandchildren, Janelle Rockett of Orlando, FL, Katherine Rockett of Salem, three great-grandchildren, Emily, Jacob and Aidan of Hartwell, GA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Ernest J. Daly, Jr., his grand-daughter, Kristin Snyder, his brothers, J. Eddie, Robert & Roland Daly, his sisters, Lucienne Pelletier, Rita Bergeron and Lorraine Brown.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 9:00 A.M. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem to be followed by his funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 10:00 A.M. Visiting hours, at the funeral home, will be on Friday, 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
