Obituary

WOOD, Virginia V. (VeeVee), age 98, died peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Carlton-Willard Village.

She was the loving wife of the late Hamilton Holton Wood (Holty) who died in 2005.

VeeVee is survived by her sister, Nancy Estabrook of Castro Valley, CA.

She leaves her son, Tony, his wife, Annie of Dedham; granddaughter Melissa Wood Savage and her husband, Erik, and their daughters, Kyra, Hope, and Ella; as well as her grandson, Holtie, III and his wife, Kate and their son, Hamilton IV. In addition, VeeVee leaves her daughter, Ceelie Wood Beacham, her husband, Bill of Aiken, SC and Westport, and her grandchildren, Dee Beacham, Hal Beacham and his sons, Brad and George. She also leaves her youngest daughter, Olivia Wood Smith, her husband, Randy of Bradenton, FL, and grandchildren, Polly and Ben and his wife, Grace.

After graduating from the Winsor School, VeeVee began working at Children’s Hospital in the hematology department. She left her position there to begin her life as a devoted wife (of 65 years) and mother. However, she was also a very active volunteer for: The Roxbury Beautification Project; The Dedham Shade Tree Committee; Dedham Country Day School, where all three of her children attended; various roles at St. Paul’s Church in Dedham, including its Altar Guild and where she was a life-long parishioner; The National Cathedral, where she was a trustee of the National Cathedral Association in Eastern Massachusetts; a member of the Vincent Club; on the board of Carlton-Willard Village during its move from Boston to its present Bedford location; and for many years, a volunteer at Massachusetts General Hospital’s flower shop where she arranged flowers and delivered them to patients.

VeeVee was an avid gardener, tending her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens in both Dedham and Cataumet. She also derived great enjoyment from various forms of needlework.

A memorial service celebrating VeeVee’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 12, 2015 at St. Paul’s Church in Dedham, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 59 Court Street, Dedham, MA 02026 or to the National Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20016.
