Obituary

William David Willcox, Jr., 76, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, May 17, 2015, at his residence.

Funeral services and the placing of cremains will be conducted privately.

Mr. Willcox was born March 13, 1939, in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late Geneva Hussey Willcox and the late Dr. W.D. Willcox, Sr. who was known affectionately by his patients as “Dr. D”. David attended Third Ward School and graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1957. He received a B.B.A. degree from Emory University in 1961. After attending Naval O.C.S., David served three years aboard the USS WASP Aircraft Carrier. He was employed by Rainbow Irrigation and Del Cook Lumber Company in the years following his naval service. He later owned and operated Willcox Garden Supply at the corner of Main and Central in Fitzgerald. David loved the southwest United States and was a regular visitor for many years. He preferred the outdoors and enjoyed photographing beautiful images from nature.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Edwina M. Willcox of Fitzgerald; three children and their spouses: Mark & Sharon Willcox of Fitzgerald, Heidi & Bruce Harper of Irwin County, and Megan & Rusty Stewart of Macon; and his grandchildren: Aubree Willcox, Eli Willcox, Lacey Willcox, Shelby Willcox, Wyatt Willcox, Tyler McDonald, Sydney McDonald, Abby McDonald, and Gage Stewart. Yet to come is David Stewart, due in July. Also surviving are one brother, Jim & Pat Willcox of Crawford and one sister, Diane Weems of Macon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gail Bouchard.
