Joseph F. Ahern

Joseph F. Ahern, age 65, of Norton passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Maria J. (Sousa) Ahern to whom he was wed for the past twenty-five years.
Born in Boston, MA on June 7, 1949, he was a loving son of the late Joseph E. and Eleanor (Healy) Ahern.
Joe grew up in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston. He was a graduate of Catholic Memorial High School and continued his education, graduating from Boston College.
A resident of Norton for the past 25 years, Mr. Ahern was a retired Mail Handler, having worked for the U. S. Postal Service at the South Station Annex. He recently retired in 2014 following a career, which spanned 27 years.
Joe was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. He loved spending time at home with his adoring family and close extended family members. He also enjoyed reading, was an avid New England sports fan and critic, and when younger was a passionate weight lifter.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children; Michael J. Ahern, Brian P. Ahern and Juliana M. Ahern all of Norton. He was the dear brother of Kevin J. Ahern and his spouse Donna of Hawaii, James E. Ahern and his spouse Kathleen of Weymouth, Dennis M. Ahern and his spouse Jennie of Florida, Patricia A. Ahern of Quincy, Robert W. Ahern and his spouse Lynn of Marshfield, Edward J. Ahern and his spouse Janet of Braintree, Richard L. Ahern and his spouse Wil of Dorchester, Paul T. Ahern and his spouse Ursula of Illinois, Maureen A. Gessner and her spouse John of Weymouth, William E. Ahern and his spouse Kathleen of Braintree, Susan M. Tower and her spouse Keith of Reading and the late Kathleen M. Gallagher. Many loving nieces and nephews, and the cherished members of his wife Maria’s family also survive him.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 20th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 19th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
In lieu of flowers, Joseph’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society, 5 Manley St., West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
