Charles Moniz, 74, of Winter Haven, Florida, formerly of New Bedford died Wednesday February 23, 2005 at Winter Haven Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Carmenella "Dolly" (Vietro) Moniz.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Mariano and Jovita (Couto) Moniz, he lived in Fairhaven and New Bedford for many years before moving to Winter Haven four months ago.
Mr. Moniz was formerly employed as a general foreman in the forge room of Chamberlain Manufacturing Company for 38 years until his retirement.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defensse Service Medal, the Parachute Badge, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing.
Survivors include three sons, Roger Moniz and his wife Lisa of New Bedford, Anthony Moniz and his wife Mary of Winter Haven, and Raymond Silvia and his wife Wendy of New Bedford; a daughter, Betty Jean Lepore and her husband Alan of Wareham; a brother, Mariano Moniz Jr. of California; four sisters, Nancy Moniz, Janet Raulet, and Helen Parker, all of Fairhaven, and Shirley Mustafa of New Bedford; seven grandchildren, Kaylah Silvia, Eric Silvia, Melissa Cashen, Roger Moniz, Jr., Crystal Moniz, Kevin Moniz, and Stephanie Lepore; and nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday evening February 28, 2005 at 8:30 PM. Visiting hours will be on Monday evening from 5-9 PM. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.
