Obituary

Arthur C. Nobre, 78, of New Bedford died Friday February 25, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the lifetime companion of Rae Labonte.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Phillip G. and Julia (Cruz) Nobre, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Mr. Nobre was formerly employed as a warehouseman at the Polaroid Corporation until his retirement.

He was a member of the Young Cape Verdean Athletic Club and the Merchant Mariners Club. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy and the Merchant Marines.

Survivors include his lifetime companion; a daughter, Lu Ann Nobre of New Bedford; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Harrison and Karen Lomba, both of New Bedford; two brothers, Richard C. Nobre of Dartmouth and Phillip C. Nobre of New Bedford; four stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday February 28, 2005 at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Sunday February 27, 2005 from 6-9 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
