Leonard F. Flynn, 81

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Leonard F. Flynn, age 81, of Mansfield, died on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Norwood Hospital. He was the husband of Marydee (Campbell) Flynn, to whom he was wed for over 53 years.
Born in Boston, MA on July 23, 1933, he was a loving son of the late Myles and Sara (Lee) Flynn. He grew up in the Mission Hill section of Boston and was a graduate of Boston Commerce High School.
During the Korean War, Leonard proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, attached to the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon being honorably discharged with the rank of Petty Officer First Class, he continued his education, and was a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Flynn was a longtime employee of the Foxboro Co. and retired with the position of Supervisor of Hardware Product Engineering.
A resident of Mansfield for the past 48 years, Leonard was well known for being actively involved in community affairs. He was a member and former president of the Natural Resources Trust of Mansfield and at the present time was involved with the Canoe River Aquifer Advisory Committee. He received numerous state citations for his accomplishments and was recently named Director Emeritus of the NRT, and the Planning Board Appointee as a Commissioner to SERPEDD.
Mr. Flynn was also a former member of the Mansfield Zoning Board, the Mansfield Board of Health, was a former member and director of the Massachusetts Land Trust Coalition, and a former member of the Mansfield Elks.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children; Dianne Flynn of Mansfield, Heather Flynn of Mansfield and Adam C. Flynn of Attleboro. He was the brother of Marty Flynn of Norton, Johnny Flynn of Maryland, Arthur Flynn of Florida, Bobby Flynn of Weymouth, Mary Hardiman of Brockton, Sally Madigan of Falmouth, and the late Jimmy Flynn and Mike Flynn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, May 26th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
Services and burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Leonard’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Natural Resources Trust, 255 Fruit St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
