Obituary

Harold William Hunt, 73, of Prosser, Washington passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 surrounded by family at his home following a short and rapid battle with cancer.

Harold is survived by his wife of 48 years Cathie (Eakman) Hunt; son, Larry Hunt and wife Lori of Orofino, Idaho and their children Matthew, Christopher, Ally, Nathan and Jordan; daughter, Angie Villanueva (Hunt) and husband Joe of Prosser and their children Sharrae and Kortney; son, Tim Hunt and wife Amy of Prosser and their children Byron and Trevor; and son Scott Hunt and wife Terrie of Prosser and their children Alli, Tyler and Scotty. He also leaves behind one great-grandson, Ashton. He is also survived by his brother Gary Hunt of Prosser and his sister Jo Anne Wise of Palmer, Alaska, as well as sister-in-law Roxanne Hunt of Hamilton, Montana, sister-in-law Charlene Eakman of Plymouth, Washington and sister-in-law Chris Eakman of Tigard, Oregon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Harold is preceded in death by his father and mother, William and Edna Hunt of Prosser; brother, Terry Hunt of Hamilton, Montana and grandson, Preston Yahne of Prosser.

Harold was born November 29, 1941 in Emmet, Idaho, the son of William and Edna Hunt. When Harold was five years old, the family moved from Idaho to Grandview, Washington where Harold attended school graduating in the Class of 1960.

Harold and Cathie were married at the Central Christian Church of Prosser on March 18, 1967.

Harold attended the Yakima Valley Community College diesel mechanics program. Following graduation from YVCC Harold worked as a tractor mechanic for more than 40 years. Harold worked as a mechanic for numerous farmers and ranchers throughout the Yakima Valley.

In addition to his work as a mechanic, Harold and Cathie operated a small family farm and vineyard in Prosser where they lived and raised their children together.

Harold was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to spend time outdoors with his family. Harold enjoyed community service and spent many hours as a volunteer at the Grandview food bank. Harold attended Prosser Calvary Baptist Church for many years. He was also a founding member of the Prosser Cowboy Church and participated in the men’s fellowship breakfast for many years and he loved having his morning coffee with his friends at the Prosser McDonalds. Harold was also involved in numerous church activities throughout the community.

Harold was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he recently celebrated 43 years of sobriety. Throughout his decades of participation in AA, Harold shared his heart, time, home and friendship with many others whom had traveled a similar path as him. Harold served others as an inspiration toward recovery and held out a hand of friendship to anyone in need. Through his service in AA Harold touched the lives of countless others offering them encouragement and hope for a better tomorrow.

A memorial service in honor of Harold will be held at the Friendship Baptist Church, 1801 Paterson Road, in Prosser at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 16, 2015. A luncheon for friends and family will be held in the fellowship hall at the church following the service. A private burial service will be held for family at a later date.
