Obituary

WORCESTER-Thomas B. Manning, 78, of 546 Chandler Street, formerly of 24 Sylvan Street, died Monday, April 15th at home after a short illness. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Hannah M. (Pryce) Manning, 2 daughters, Iris A. Shulman of Rutland and Diane M. Warren of Attleboro; a sister, Janet M. Belles of Glastonbury, CT; 4 grandsons, Daniel T., James M. and William J. Warren all of Attleboro and Adam C. L. Shulman of Rutland; many nephews and nieces. 2 brothers, Colonel James D. Manning and Bruce H. Manning predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester the son of James D. and Janet M. (Brown) Manning and lived here most of his life. He attended Worcester Public Schools. Mr. Manning was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran serving in the European Theater of Operations in both England and Germany. He worked as a machinist for 25 years at Hobbs Manufacturing Company, retiring in 1976. He then worked for Hardy Knife Company in Worcester for 5 years. He was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church and of the U.S. Steel Workers Union and a former member of the V.F.W Post #6907 in West Boylston. He enjoyed train and airplane modeling and was an avid gardener.

The funeral will be Saturday, April 20th with a service at 11:00 AM in O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 72 Cambridge Street, Worcester, Massachusetts, 01603.
