John M. Wiswell
Sound Engineer/Bass Guitarist
WEYMOUTH: John M. Wiswell, age 56, of Weymouth, formerly of Tewksbury, passed away at home on Friday, May 1, 2015.
He was the father of Emily C. Wiswell of Newburyport.
Born in Boston on April 24, 1959, he was the son of Margaret M. (McLaughlin) (Wiswell) Sturge of Weymouth and Alfred J. Wiswell of Peabody.
John was raised in Tewksbury, attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from the Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in 1977.
He was a talented bass guitarist and performed with several bands including the “Flaherty Brothers” “Day of Rain”, “The Jaimes”, and most recently “El Kabong”.
In addition, John was a sound engineer for several popular music performers including “John Butcher Axis”, “Los LoBos”, “The Del Fuegos”, “Morphine” and “The Swinging Steaks”.
In addition to his daughter and parents, he is survived by his brother, Daniel C. Wiswell and his wife Allison of Westborough; his sister, Laura A. Tangherlini of Cape Cod; his beloved partner of many years, Mary Bryant of Quincy; his former spouse and mother of his daughter Emily, Lynne Taylor of Newburyport; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 14, from 4-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, followed by a gathering of family and close friends at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2068 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury.
