Obituary

Acushnet-Gil Mello died February 15th 2005 at home surrounded by his family and friends. He was the widow of Audrey C. (Verdi) Mello, and his first wife the late Maria (Flor) Mello. He was the father of Rita Mello of Monterrey, Mexico, and Barbara Fries of Acushnet. He was the loving companion Barbara Davis of Somerset. He was the grandfather of Jennifer, Kenneth, and Cori. He was the great grandfather of Devin Thomas Borges. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his extended family in Monterrey, Mexico and Somerset, MA.

Mr. Mello was the son of the late Antonio and Josephine (Borges) Mello. He lived in this area all his life. He was a welder for the Department of Public Works for the City of New Bedford, for 30 years. He was a machinist’s 3rd class for the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed traveling and woodworking, living with his adopted great-grandson and family.

Mr. Mello visiting hours will be Thursday February 17th 2005 from 5-9 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. His mass of Christian Burial will be Friday February 18th 2005 at St. John Neumann Church East Freetown at 10 A.M.
