Obituary

John G. “Jack” Regan passed away at home on Saturday, at the age of 85. The son of the late Ralph Waldo and Bridget (Dwyer) Regan, he was born and raised in Medford and lived in Burlington for many years. He heeded the call to duty and served with the Army in the Korean War. He returned to civilian life and enrolled at Boston University where he was a star on the football team, serving as captain in 1957 and earning many awards. While raising his family and teaching physical education in Medford Public Schools, he earned his master’s degree from Boston University. Jack later became Athletics Director at Medford High and oversaw one of the most prolific periods in athletics at the school.

The beloved husband of Ruth (Ardolino), he was a devoted father to Joan Cavalier and her husband Stephen of Burlington, John Regan, Jr. and his wife Susan of Vero Beach, FL, Thomas Regan of Burlington, Mark Regan and his wife Denise of Derry, NH. He was a loving grandfather to Brendan, Lauren, Kelli, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Amanda, Taylor, Mark and Jordan as well as a loving great-grandfather to Christopher and Madeline. He is survived by his special nephew Stephen Newell of Lexington and many other nieces and nephews. The dear brother of Robert Regan and his wife Hildegarde of Woburn, Thomas Regan and his wife Carol of Medford, he is predeceased by and the late Marjorie Sampson, Pauline Horblit, James Dwyer, Ralph and Walter Regan.

Family and friends may visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Wednesday, May 6th from 9 to 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford, at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
