Robert Max Floyd, 88, of Groton, died Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Apple Rehab in Mystic. He was born May 5, 1926 in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of the late Charles W. Floyd and Sylvia M. Shafer.
He served in the Navy Submarine service on the USS Stingray during World War II. He retired from Electric Boat as a supervisor of mechanical design.
He was a Master Mason of Coastal Lodge 57, a life member of the Quoketaug Rangers. He was a member of the Old Mystic Baptist Church and served on many boards and committees. He was a wooden toy maker for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Williams Floyd, whom he married May 6, 1945. He is also survived by his sons Craig L. and wife Sheryl, Curt C. and wife Donna, and Cody L. and wife Eleanora “Nora”, as well as ten grandchildren, Shawn and wife Amie, James “Jaime”, Shane, Jeffery, Kevin, Avery, Wyatt, Melanie, Hunter and Morgan and 5 great grandchildren, Alisha, Christina, Elizabeth, Tristan-Lee, Mackenzie and Colby. He is also survived by his brother Jack D. Floyd of Michigan.
He is predeceased by his son James “Jaime” and his brother Jack D. Floyd.
A service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:00am at the Old Mystic Baptist Church, 151 Shewville Road, Old Mystic. There are no calling hours and burial will be private.
