Marian L. (Shepard) Wheeler, age 98, a lifelong resident of Mansfield passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Doolittle Home in Foxboro.
She was the beloved wife of the late James A. Wheeler, II, former president of the Mansfield Co-Operative Bank, to whom she was wed for nearly 64 years at the time of his death on April 5, 2006.
Born in Mansfield, MA on December 9, 1916, she was a loving daughter of the late F. Schuyler and Mae A. (Leeds) Shepard
Marian was a 1934 graduate of Mansfield High School and during WWII, helped in the war effort as a member of the American Red Cross.
A dedicated homemaker to her adoring family, Mrs. Wheeler was a lifelong member of the Mansfield Congregational Church, where she was active in the Women’s Fellowship and Flower Committee.
She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Mansfield Chapter of the Westside Benevolent Society.
She loved spending time with family and friends, especially the many lifelong memories of summering on Cape Cod in Falmouth. Marian’s other interests included gardening, tole painting, knitting and swimming.
She is survived by her devoted children Nancy L. Mei and her husband Robert of Mansfield and Falmouth, James A. Wheeler, Jr. of North Weymouth and Falmouth and Jane W. Dolan of Wareham. She was the cherished grandmother of Jeffrey R. Mei and his wife Amy, Betsy J. Fanchiang and her husband Eric, Brittany J. Dolan and James W. “Jay” Dolan, III. Her great grandchildren Lily Fanchiang and Daniel Mei, as well as several generations of loving nieces and nephews also survive her. She was the dear sister of the late Frances I. Pilkington, Helen S. Beuttel, Margery S. Strople and Priscilla S. Halloran. She was the mother in law of the late J. William Dolan, MD.
Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, May 7th at 1:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held prior to the services on Thursday from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
